Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2 October 2026

The short version. Verge never holds or moves your money and never asks for your MoMo PIN or bank password. We collect only what Verge needs to work, we never sell your data, and you can delete your account and everything with it at any time.

Who we are

Verge is a personal finance app operated by Verge Finance in Ghana ("Verge", "we", "us"). This policy explains what information the Verge app and this website collect, why, and the choices you have. It is written to meet Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).

Questions or requests: our support email.

What we collect

When you create an account

  • Your name (first and last).
  • Your email address, if you sign in with Google, and the basic profile Google shares with us (name and email).
  • Your phone number. Until you confirm it with a text-message code, it is stored as unverified and is not used to sign in.

What you enter in the app

  • Your accounts (for example "MTN MoMo", "Telecel Cash", "AT Money" or a bank name), their balances, and optionally the last 4 digits of a phone or account number to tell them apart. We never ask for or store full account numbers.
  • Transactions you log: amount, category, account, date and any note you add.
  • Bills, your payday schedule, savings goals and contributions, and your safety buffer.

Where your money records are kept, and why

Your accounts, balances, transactions, bills, goals and safety buffer are kept on your phone first, in Verge's private app storage, with a backup copy on our servers while you're signed in.

  • On your phone: every screen reads from your phone, so Verge works fully without internet or data bundles. Android keeps each app's storage separate, so other apps can't read Verge's data, and phones running modern Android encrypt this storage.
  • Backed up: a few seconds after you make a change (and whenever you're back online), Verge copies it to your backup, so a lost or new phone doesn't mean lost records.

We have turned off Android's automatic app backup for Verge, so your records are not also copied into a Google Drive backup without you knowing. Verge's own backup is the only copy outside your phone.

What the backup holds

  • Backed up: your accounts (names, balances and, if you added them, the last 4 digits), transactions, bills, payday schedule, goals and contributions, and your safety buffer.
  • Never backed up: full account or card numbers (Verge never has them), your MoMo PIN or passwords, and phone-only settings such as reminder times and App lock.
  • Who can read it: only you, when signed in. Our database lets each person read and change only their own records. Data is encrypted in transit and stored with our database provider, Supabase, whose servers may be outside Ghana.
  • How long it's kept: until you delete your account, which deletes the backup with it. Records you delete in the app are marked deleted in the backup too, so they disappear from your other phones.

New or lost phone? Install Verge and sign in with the same account; your records are restored automatically. Changes made while offline are backed up when you reconnect. If you sign out before they've been backed up, Verge warns you first.

App lock

You can turn on App lock in Settings → Security. Verge then asks for your phone's own fingerprint, face unlock or passcode every time it opens, and again if you've been away for more than a minute. Verge never sees or stores your fingerprint, face or passcode: your phone checks them and only tells Verge whether the check passed.

Settings that stay on your phone

Your reminder time, App lock setting and similar preferences are kept only on your phone. Daily check-in reminders are scheduled on your phone and need no server.

On this website

If you join the waitlist, we store your email address, the date, the part of the page you signed up from, which phone you use and how you heard about Verge if you choose to tell us, the tag on the link you arrived from (for example a link we shared on WhatsApp), and whether you offered to test Verge before launch. We use these only to decide where to tell people about Verge and when to build the iPhone version. The website has no advertising or tracking cookies.

What we don't collect

  • Your MoMo PIN, bank passwords or card numbers.
  • Your location or contacts.
  • Your text messages. If we add optional SMS reading to log MoMo and bank transactions automatically, it will be off by default, explained before you turn it on, read only messages from MoMo and bank senders, and run on your phone. We will update this policy before that feature launches.

How we use your information

  • To create and secure your account and sign you in.
  • To show your Safe-to-Spend, bills, goals and insights. These are worked out from what you enter.
  • To reply when you contact us. If you use "Report a problem", your email includes your app version and phone model so we can help.
  • To email you once when Verge launches, if you joined the waitlist. If you also offered to test Verge, we email you a few times about testing: the invitation, and to ask what you think.

We do not sell your information, show you ads, or use it for anyone else's marketing.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf, only to run Verge:

  • Supabase: our account and database provider (sign-in, your profile, your backup and the waitlist).
  • Google: if you choose "Continue with Google", to confirm who you are.
  • Hubtel: to send sign-in codes by text message, when phone sign-in is available. Hubtel receives your phone number and the code.

Some of these providers store data on servers outside Ghana. We choose providers that protect data with encryption and access controls. We may also disclose information if Ghanaian law requires it.

How we protect it

  • Your money records stay on your phone, in storage other apps can't read.
  • Data sent between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit.
  • Our database only lets each person read and change their own records.
  • App lock uses your phone's fingerprint, face unlock or passcode (see above).
  • We collect as little as possible: no full account numbers, no PINs, no location.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information and backup until you delete your account. Records on your phone stay there until you sign out, delete your account or uninstall the app. Waitlist emails are kept until Verge launches and we have emailed you, or until you ask us to remove yours.

Your rights

Under the Data Protection Act, you can ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted, and you can object to how we use it.

  • Delete everything: in the app, go to Profile → Settings → Delete account and data. Can't use the app? See Delete my account.
  • Anything else: email our support email. We reply within 30 days.

If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to Ghana's Data Protection Commission, the regulator for personal data in Ghana.

Children

Verge is for people aged 18 and over. When you create an account, you confirm that you are 18 or older, and the app is listed for adults in app stores. Because Verge never holds money, we don't ask for ID documents to check age. If you believe someone under 18 has created an account, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For important changes, such as SMS reading, we'll tell you in the app before they take effect.
